Pā Road Pinot Noir is Champion Wine of the Marlborough Wine Show
Pā Road, a new range of wines created by Marlborough’s te Pā Family Vineyards, has been launched to critical acclaim, with its 2014 Pinot Noir winning the O-I New Zealand Trophy for Champion Wine of the Show at the Marlborough Wine Show.
The wine also won the Classic Oak Products Trophy for Champion Pinot Noir 2014 at the Show, as well as a gold medal.
The Pā Road range has taken out a number of industry medals in recent weeks, with the 2016 Pā Road Sauvignon Blanc winning a gold medal at the New Zealand International Wine Show, and a silver medal in the Air New Zealand Wine Awards. The 2014 Pa Road Pinot Noir also won a silver medal at the prestigious 2016 International Wine & Spirits Competition.
Owner and proprietor of te Pā Family Vineyards, Haysley MacDonald, says of the new Pā Road range: “Through Pā Road we’ve created a collection of beautiful quality wines, based around my family’s heritage and connection to the historic Wairau Bar. To be named the Champion Wine of the Show at the Marlborough Wine Show is a great honour and gives the Pā Road range a fantastic endorsement from some of New Zealand’s most respected judges and wine critics.”
Chief Winemaker for te Pā Family Vineyards, Liam McElhinney, says of the range: “Pā Road is a brilliant addition to the te Pā family of wines. It creates an accessible option for people to build on their wine discovery journey, while offering internationally and nationally recognised quality and of course, a beautiful range of contemporary and drinkable wines that will make many Kiwis nostalgic for times gone by. Pā Road represents a much-needed range of wines that provide great value for money to wine lovers who can now experience some of the Marlborough region’s finest wines at price that is easy on the wallet.
“In terms of winemaking, 2014 was an outstanding growing year for Pinot Noir in Marlborough. We were able to pick the Pinot Noir fruit earlier than we traditionally have been able to, avoiding the inclement weather that came later in March, which was really beneficial to the resulting wine we crafted. The 2014 Pā Road Pinot Noir is rich, ripe and complex, and we think that customers both at home and abroad are going to love this wine and the other acclaimed wines in the range.”
“Ever since the launch of our first vintage Sauvignon Blanc in 2011, te Pā Family Vineyards has cultivated a reputation here in New Zealand and internationally, based on the quality and accolades we’ve received for our Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris wines. However, it’s less well known that in the background we’ve also been quietly working on our Pinot Noir programme and this latest trophy demonstrates the talent, commitment and skill of our viticulture and winemaking team.”
Distributed by New Zealand beverage brokers, Beverage Brothers, Pā Road is now available at selected supermarkets and wine stores around the country, with a number of new outlets expected to be added in the coming weeks.Check out Stuff.co.nz's write up of the event and our big win, and see Raymond Chan's recap of the trophy winners here.
