Many of us know and love the classic combo of a juicy cheeseburger, washed down with a gulp of icy cold beer. But fewer may have taken in the sublime experience of a gourmet burger and a sip of trophy-winning Marlborough Pinot Gris.
However, the visionary team at Ben's Canteen in London's Earlsfield, have come up with just that pairing - and people are loving it.
The Foodaholic recently visited the Canteen to try the burger and wine pairings, and blog founder Gary Berry has written up a great review of his experience. Check it out and let us know if you'd indulge in this surprisingly delightful food and beverage match.
"The restaurant surprised me actually, serving a Pinot Gris with our cheeseburger (instead of the classic red), Malbec with the Hawaiian pulled pork bun (instead of a white) and Champagne with a deliciously unhealthy posh fried chicken burger. All of the wines went so well with each burger and a special mention must go out to that classic cheeseburger. A stunning mix of umami laden beef patty, American cheese and BC (own blend) burger sauce. It quite literally leaves me salivating now at the thought of biting into it again, washed down with that Pinot Gris."
About Time Magazine, the respected UK food and lifestyle website, has also included Ben's Canteen's gourmet burger menu on its list of things to eat in London, so you know it's a winner!
