Celebrating 10 Years of te Pa!
This month has been a big one for us already, with the exciting news of our te Pa Chardonnay winning the Champion Chardonnay, and the Champion White Wine of the Show, in the New World Wine Awards for 2021.
The wine is being called 'the best white wine under $25 in New Zealand' by the media, which is a title we are all too happy to take! Our Montford Estate 2020 Chardonnay was also awarded a gold medal, 95 points and a spot in the Top 50 in the Awards, which is a great result for our newest brand.
And we've got some more news to share too.
Ten years ago this month, in October 2011, we did our first ever bottling of te Pa Sauvignon Blanc!
It was a huge moment for Haysley MacDonald, the owner of te Pa Family Vineyards, his partner Julie, and his parents Phillip and Christine MacDonald.
We'd like to take this opportunity to get in touch and personally thank every single one of our hard-working, passionate team members – past and present, all of our loyal customers, the wine trade and media, and our trusted distribution partners, and valued suppliers, here in New Zealand, and around the world.
Without you all, there is no us. So, come along and learn a little more about our journey over the last ten years, and our milestones to date, which many of you have been part of.
Early acclaim for the te Pa Sauvignon Blanc
Upon its release, the inaugural te Pa 2011 Sauvignon Blanc topped the prestigious Cuisine Magazine wine tasting, with the judges naming it the best Kiwi Sauvignon Blanc that year. The wine would go on to win a gold medal and spot in the Sydney International Wine Competition’s hotly contested Top 100 list.
At the time, Haysley said of the te Pa brand and launch; "It's been my baby that I've been working away on for close to two years now. To get a start like this is bloody amazing."
Since then, we've expanded the te Pa range considerably, with a full offering of Sauvignon Blanc, our oak-aged Sauvignon blanc Oke, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Riesling and our te Pa Noble Sauvignon Blanc (a luscious dessert wine).
Growing our vineyard holdings, and our global reach
We’ve grown our vineyard plantings to over 400 hectares across Marlborough, and released more wine brands to critical acclaim. In our family of brands, we now have the te Pa range, te Pa Reserve Collection, Koha, Pa Road, and our newer Montford Estate range.
As of October 2021, our wines are available in 15 countries, including New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Canada, Ireland, Scotland, Denmark, Russia, Kazakhstan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, and Samoa - with Germany getting their first order for Christmas, and more to come after that.
