Domenic Romano joins te Pa as General Manager

  • by Mikela Dennison

We are delighted to welcome Domenic Romano to the team as General Manager. At a time of progression and acclaim for the business with ever-rising demand for our wines, Domenic is well-placed to guide the team, company performance and operations, through our growth journey.

Learn a little more about our new GM in this short profile piece, and feel free to contact domenic@tepawines.com with any general business queries.

Domenic Romano has held leadership roles in corporate and commercial banking, returning home to Marlborough where he led the BNZ Partners team for the last ten years. Prior to this Domenic grew his interest and experience in international trade working with multi-national clients and some of NZ’s leading primary industry exporters whilst with HSBC NZ.

Domenic says of the new role; “I’ve always enjoyed working with food and beverage exporters with the aim of assisting their growth and to be successful, so it is exciting times ahead to help Haysley and the te Pa team build on its strong foundations for future success.

te Pa is a uniquely placed wine business with its family orientation, Maori heritage and brand themes with te Pa, Koha, Montford Estate and Pa Road resonating strongly in both domestic and international markets.”

Owner and founder of te Pa, Haysley MacDonald, says he’s delighted to welcome Domenic on board; “I’ve known Domenic for a long time through family connections and then in a professional capacity as the business has evolved. He knows our business history and aspirations, and I’ve always been impressed with his strategic-orientation and commercial acumen. I know he will apply his skills and leadership to the benefit of our team and ever-growing operations.”

With his Italian heritage, it’s no wonder Domenic’s favourite wine and food pairing would be our stunning te Pa Sauvignon Blanc Oke, matched with a delicious antipasto of cheeses, breads, salami and prosciutto. Being a long-time Marlborough man, Domenic is also partial to a glass of our flagship te Pa Sauvignon Blanc matched with some beautiful blue cod or in-season whitebait.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank outgoing General Manager Kelvin Deaker, who begins his new role at Vinlink this month. Kelvin has been a key driver and champion of our strategic shift to focus on our branded products, as well as strengthening operations and administrative functions. The whole team thanks Kelvin for his contribution to the company and all the very best for his next adventure.
