te Pā 2021 Signature Series Sauvignon Blanc wins the only IWSC gold medal for a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc

te Pā Family Vineyards of Marlborough is celebrating after its te Pā 2021 Signature Series Sauvignon Blanc was awarded the only gold medal for a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc in the prestigious International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) this week.

The estate-grown wine scored 95 points along with the highly sought-after gold medal from the world’s most established drinks awards. It was one of just six gold medals awarded to wines from New Zealand in the 2022 IWSC, and the only New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc to win gold.

The IWSC judging panel, which included a Master Sommelier and a Master of Wine, wrote the following tasting note for the gold medal te Pā Signature Series Sauvignon Blanc:

“A fine wine with wonderful concentration and refreshment. Pronounced aromas of golden apple and lemons zest, leading to rounded passionfruit and lime notes on the palate. Well-detailed and excellent intensity.”

A wine that attracts a score of 95 points and above is categorised as; “A superb wine with great personality, character and complexity, but that is also true to its origins. An example that stands out among its peers as a supreme drinking experience.”

te Pā Signature Series Sauvignon Blanc has enjoyed strong and continued growth since launching in the UK in late 2020. The vegan-friendly wine is now widely available in major supermarket retailers Tesco, ASDA and Morrison’s. Tesco also stocks the te Pā Signature Series Pinot Noir.

About te Pā Family Vineyards

Marlborough-based producer te Pā Family Vineyards is an independent, Māori family wine company, led by owner and founder Haysley MacDonald. Mr. MacDonald’s family has a unique history and heritage, tracing their ancestry back 800 years to some of the earliest Māori migrations to Aotearoa-New Zealand. Chief Winemaker Sam Bennett leads the wine programme, and Vineyard Manager Gareth Exton oversees the company’s sizeable vineyard holdings across the Marlborough region.

The winery produces award-winning Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Rose, Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and exports to 15 countries. All wines are sustainably grown to Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand standards.

In addition to the Signature Series brand, the winery also has its flagship te Pā label, its super-premium te Pā Reserve Collection, Koha (USA), Montford Estate and Pā Road Wines in its family of brands. The Pā Road 2021 Sauvignon Blanc was also recognised in the rigorously judged IWSC awards, winning a silver medal and 93-point score.

The winery previously enjoyed success in the 2020 IWSC, with its te Pā 2020 Pinot Noir Rose winning the only gold medal for a New Zealand wine that year.
